Custom Saddlery Honors Susanne Hamilton for Proving All Kinds of Horses Can Be Successful

Wellington, FL (March 14, 2017) — Susanne Hamilton and her little equine partner Lutz, an imported 14-year-old, 15.2-hand Haflinger gelding (Argument x Mandy, Navis Van De Wellenhoff) owned by Bettina Hinckley, have captivated audiences with their success in, and out, of the arena. Not only did Lutz debut in his first U.S. CDI in February at the Adequan Global Dressage Festival CDI3* in Wellington, Florida, but he and Hamilton have since raked in the accolades and impressed crowds with their pluck and determination.

In February, they won a Dressage Foundation fundraiser – the Two-Tempi Challenge – by performing 58 two-tempis in succession at the Adequan Global Dressage Festival show grounds. The pair again took the top prize at a cancer research fundraiser – Dressage Under the Stars – where they danced in a dressage freestyle. In 2016, they participated in the Challenge of the Americas, another freestyle event, which raised money for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

Because of her inspirational and successful training and showing of a non-traditional breed of dressage horse, Hamilton recently earned the Custom Saddlery Most Valuable Rider (MVR) Award at the Adequan Global Dressage Festival. She was given a Custom Saddlery MVR Award ribbon, golf towel, and embroidered saddle pad from the innovative saddle manufacturer that sponsors the Adequan Global Dressage Festival.

“People may be able to identify with me because I’ve pulled up from nowhere,” Hamilton said. “I know what it’s like to be a working student. I know how to treat my fellow people, because I’ve been there. I’m just in it for the journey – I’m living the dream. I love dressage. I just want to be better at it. I’m going in there every day saying, ‘I’d like to make an improvement.’”

She found Lutz on a horse shopping trip to Germany. “I have a 75-year-old client who was looking for another horse. So, when I went to Germany, she said, ‘If you find an elegant, small, easy-to-sit little mare – preferably black – bring it home.’ And I came home with Lutz,” she laughed. “He’s a blonde, beige Haflinger. But she trusted me. We talked about it, we went for it, and we’ve never looked back. Now she says, ‘The only reason I didn’t say to bring me a horse like Lutz is because I didn’t know it existed.’”

Hamilton has also brought up Lord Locksley, a 16-year-old Trakehner stallion (Unkenruf x Lida) owned by Margaret Stevens, to the Grand Prix level. The stallion could walk, trot, and barely canter when Hamilton got the ride when the stallion was eight, but he is now actively competing in the CDIs at the Adequan Global Dressage Festival.

Hamilton is grateful to her equine partners’ owners, with whom she says the journey would never be possible without. As she and her group of excellent horses and owners move forward together, she is also always eager to add more great talent and sponsors to her team.

Hamilton was especially excited to win the Custom Saddlery MVR Award, as she herself has been riding in Custom saddles for years. “I’ve used these saddles for more than 15 years,” she said. “I have a barn full of them. I’ve tried other saddles, but always prefer Customs – they fit like a good shoe.” Many top riders agree with Hamilton, including Olympic athletes, international Grand Prix riders, and adult amateurs.
